What are School Sport Partnerships (SSP)?
SSPs aim to deliver PESSYP - the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People. In a nutshell, the Government would like all 5-16 year olds to get the opportunity to do 5 hours of sport a week and 16-19 year olds to get the opportunity to do 3 hours of sport a week.
What was PESSCL?
PESSCL - PE, School Sport and Club Links was the Governments strategy before PESSYP. It asked that all 5-16 year olds were to try and do 2 hours of PE and School Sport per week.
In our SSP, which began in Sept 2005, we found that, initially 55% of pupils in our schools were doing 2 hours, this rose to 77% and then to 85% in our third year.
How do we know these figures?
Every year the SSP asks every pupil in all schools to take part in a paper survey. Answers are then transferred onto a system which works out who does what.
We are we at now?
The first PESSYP survey was carried out in the summer 09 - our results show that 48% of pupils in the Partnership are participating in 3 hours of PE and school sport. The target is to reach 80% by summer 2011.
The second PESSYP survey was carried out in the summer 10 - our results show that 71% of pupils in the Partnership are participating in 3 hours of PE and school sport. The target is to reach 80% by summer 2011.
